GOT YOU COVERED
I was getting ready to play a casual doubles match in Florida. I was new to playing with my partner. I an amateur recreational player was matched up with a coach and expert at Tennis! Nervous, but excited to play with him, I turned to ask him what formation he wanted to play. Did he want to take a side or play back? He calmly said, “You play your game I have you covered”. While I didn’t know his style, I was happy to be asked to partner with him. In the short couple of days, I had gotten to know him, I had come to respect him, both as a tennis player, a friend, and a brilliant tennis coach!
He didn’t cover me in the way I expected him too. I wanted him to cover me for every shot I would potentially miss so that we could win the point. He could have played for me and we could have won many of the points and games. Instead he allowed me to play, guided me with instructions when necessary, so that I would learn to know my game and play my shots, win or lose.
He gave me the courage to play with a steady presence. If it did come to his side he would play the ball and play it well. His purpose was that I may have a chance to play and strengthen my confidence and my game. In life God tells us the same: Go ahead partner with me, I got you covered. He won’t play it for us, He will guide us, give us practice, let us try even if we stumble. He cheers us on, and gives us a hand.
God’s desire to partner with us is so we can play our own role in life well, the one he designed for us.
If you have heard of Christ, seen others partner with Him, then try it! You are partnering up with an expert and someone prepared to cover you! Christ is keeping that opportunity open, and offers us the chance to partner with Him in life. So go ahead partner with Christ, He has you covered!
Christ said: "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." He did not say, " Come unto me all ye who follow our rules, and let the heavy laden go hang." (Naomi Zacharias, "the scent of water")
